BOMAB
PHANTOM
The
NTS Bottle Mannequin Absorber (BOMAB) Phantom (Catalog # NTSBMP01)
provides a functional simulation for the scattering of radiation in
an adult human figure 170 cm tall. Applications for the
phantom include realistic-geometry calibrations, measurement
performance and quality control testing of whole body counters which
are used for in vivo bioassay of internally deposited
radionuclides in heath physics programs. The BOMAB phantom is
also useful in x-ray radiotherapy techniques in the nuclear medicine
field.
The
phantom consists of ten (10) cylinders of various shapes (circular
and elliptical) and dimensions which together comprise the average
person
High-density
polyethylene, approximately 4.76 mm thick, is used in all parts of
the phantom because it is considered sufficiently tissue equivalent
over the range of photon energies normally encountered in fission
and activation solid body burden monitoring
Each
cylinder is fitted with a 50 mm leak proof recessed filler cap
mounted in the end of each cylinder. The caps, when fully
closed, are flush with the surface to allow the cylinders to be
stacked. The overall dimension are designed to comply with the
requirements of Reference Man described in ICRP-23. Tolerances
are held to within +/- 10%.

The
tolerances for the volumes of each section are held within
± 10% and the height values within ±
5% of the ICRP 23 dimensions.
Options: A
frame is available for assuring consistent, repeatable geometry in
either the standing or sitting position. BOMAB

Additional
sizes of phantoms are available upon request. All components
are made of superior quality material to assure safe and reliable
operation. Every effort is made to conduct the highest quality
work in accordance with recognized national/international standards. The
NTS BOMAB phantom has been used by Pacific National Laboratory in a
pilot study for characterization of phantoms. The NTS phantom
is also packaged along as optional equipment by leading
manufacturers of whole body counting assay systems. For
calibration and quality control/measurement assurance of Whole Body
Counting systems and in vivo bioassay programs, the phantoms
can also be filled/loaded with the radionuclides of interest in
requested concentrations in the tissue equivalent material. We

as Oak Ridge National Laboratory, U.S. Navel Reactor Facility in
Idaho, NUKEM contractor at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy
